Family-owned HVAC and mechanical engineering firm marks half a century of growth, from a two-person operation on Redstone Arsenal to a full-service leader in the region.
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Environmental Systems Corporation of Huntsville (ESC) is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2026, marking five decades of service to commercial and industrial clients across North Alabama and Southern Tennessee.
Founded in 1976 by Russell and Carol Grimes, ESC began as a small two-person operation focused on maintenance and piping for environmental test chambers on Redstone Arsenal. Over the past 50 years, the company has grown into a full-service provider of mechanical engineering and design, turnkey HVAC systems, building commissioning, energy management, and maintenance solutions — serving the defense contracting industry and other sectors that drive the North Alabama economy.
Today, ESC is led by President Rebecca Grimes Davis and Vice President of Operations Stephen Grimes, who have been with the company since 1996, continuing the family legacy that has guided the firm since its founding.
